Piaggio Group announces official distributorship for Aprilia in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Premira Sdn Bhd, the subsidiary of Naza Group, has announced that it will cease operating its Aprilia distributorship with effect from July 31, 2018 after a mutual decision with the principal.

In a statement released yesterday, Naza Premira said the decision was the result of a brands rationalisation plan under the Naza Group’s overall corporate strategy to ensure long-term sustainability and profitability of other high-performing 4-wheel and 2-wheel brands, in line with current market demands.

Following this announcement, Naza Premira Sdn Bhd will continue to represent Piaggio and Vespa brands in Malaysia.

Chairman & General Director of Piaggio Vietnam Gianluca Fiume, who is also executive vice president Asia Pacific 2 Wheeler, said Didi’s appointment is part of Piaggio’s business strategy, with Aprilia and Moto Guzzi motorcycle brands are marketed 'under a single commitment' in Malaysia.

“With Aprilia and Moto Guzzi under one roof, we are able to offer a wider range of motorcycles for potential customers who seek unique Italian motorcycle experience, backed by superior performance and the rich heritage of these brands.

“We look forward to collaborate closely with Didi Resources to propel both Aprilia and Moto Guzzi to greater heights,” Gianluca said in a press statement.

Naza Prestige Bikes Sdn Bhd lost Harley-Davidson dealership for the Malaysian market after a decade last year.

Naza still has Ducati, Piaggio, and Indian in its stable of bikes.

With the move from Naza to Didi, a dedicated showroom for Aprilia and Moto Guzzi brands will be housed at Gasket Alley in Petaling Jaya, together with an after-sales and a service workshop manned by a new team with specialised technical skills and expertise fully trained by Aprilia.

Didi chairman Rewi Hamid Bugo said his company is honoured to be given the opportunity to manage Aprilia, a prestigious Piaggio Group brand for the Malaysian market.

“This complements the Moto Guzzi range which we have established since August 2017 and completes our premium Italian motorcycle product range under Piaggio.

“Through this acquisition, Didi Resources is firmly committed to building the Aprilia brand through a dedicated after sales support, strengthening of the Aprilia community and ensuring that engagement with the brand is continuous in the light of a competitive 2-wheel environment in Malaysia,” he said.
