UMW group's automotive sales jump 17pct from January-October

KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Holdings Bhd recorded a strong sales of 44,4767 vehicles in October as both UMW Toyota Motor and its associate company Perodua delivered outstanding orders.

Year to date (YTD), UMW Holdings' automotive sales jumped 17 per cent to 354,505 units from the 302,356 units registered in the same period of 2022.

UMW Holdings officer-in-charge Megat Shahrul Azmir said YTD, both UMW Toyota and Perodua had continued to register higher sales compared with the same period of 2022.

The group is confident that both companies will achieve their sales targets for 2023 based on the outstanding bookings as well as the sustained demand for new vehicles.

"The introduction of new and facelifted models is also expected to drive sales. We would like to thank our customers for their continued support of our products and services," he said in a statement.

UMW Toyota registered 10,931 units in October, its highest monthly sales in the last five years. It was 18 per cent higher than the 9,281 units registered in October 2022.

"Year-to-date October 2023, UMW Toyota registered 87,442 units, recording a nine per cent growth compared with the 80,153 units registered in the corresponding period of 2022," it said.

Perodua registered 33,836 units in October, its highest-ever monthly sales, as it continues to ramp up production supported by the improving supply chain.

It was also 31 per cent higher compared with the 25,849 units delivered in October 2022.

"Year-to-date October 2023, Perodua's sales surged to 267,063 units, 20 per cent higher than the 222,203 units delivered in the same period of 2022.

For the first ten months of 2023, Perodua's top selling models were the Bezza, followed by the Axia and Myvi," it added.
