Dutch Lady Malaysia aims to strengthen leading market share position

KUALA LUMPUR: Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd (Dutch Lady Malaysia) aims to further strengthen its major market share in formulated milk powder for children, to be driven by product innovation based on its consumers’ demand, said its managing director Tarang Gupta.

He said the company continuously improved its products over the years and is responsible for shaping Malaysia’s formulated milk powder for children category.

Tarang said currently, the company holds 20 per cent of local market share formulated milk powder for children.

“Since our inception in Malaysia more than 55 years ago, the company has been committed to nourishing the nation with trusted dairy nutrition. In line with this, we have been responsible for introducing key developments in the category of toddler nutrition.

“In fact, we were the first to introduce formulated milk powder for children to Malaysian mothers in 1998. We were also the first to introduce zero per cent sucrose or less sucrose formulation in our products in 2012 to help address the rising concerns of non-communicable diseases in Malaysia,” he told reporters after launching the new pack of formulated milk powder here recently.

Taking children’s nutrition to new heights, Dutch Lady Malaysia now offers the highest level of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in its formulated milk powder for children from one to three years old in new pack.

The new pack now offers 20 milligram (mg), or 8.7 per cent, of DHA per serving as compared to 15mg to 18mg per serving offered by its competitors.

Tarang said the improved Dutch Lady 123 formulation also contains higher nutrient values for protein, vitamin D3, vitamin C, vitamin B12, vitamin B6 and vitamin K – which are essential for a growing child.

“Today, we are pleased to achieve another milestone in the product category of formulated milk powder for children – providing the highest level of DHA in every serving of Dutch Lady 123.

“We realise that the toddler years are the most important period of cognitive, emotional and social development. And many parents understand that DHA is a key nutrient to support the development of a child,” he said.
