KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia was unable to hold its momentum and closed in the red at lunchbreak.

At 12.30pm, the key index dropped 0.08 per cent or 1.24 points to 1,533.76 from 1,535 points at Tuesday's close.

The key index opened marginally higher at 1,535.05 and moved between 1,532.95 and 1,538.62 in the morning trading session.

The broader market saw gainers surpassing decliners 512 to 344 while 461 counters were unchanged.

FBM100 was up 0.09 per cent to 11,178.61 , FBM Emas added 0.12 per cent to 11,529.39  and FBM Ace gained 0.72 per cent to 4,917.17.

Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd held steady as the top gainer, adding  74 sen to RM32.30 while Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd emerged as top loser, tumbling 38 sen to RM22.52.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd stated in a note that selling pressure could have been overdone on the local front, and should be due for a rebound following the mixed trading sentiment on Wall Street.

"We think there might be a rebound in the construction, property and technology sector. Meanwhile, traders could position within transportation and logistics companies, while long term investors may look into more defensive sectors such as consumer," it said.
