PetChem launches 10 new brands for petrochemical products

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) today launched 10 new brands for its existing and upcoming isononanol, polymer and glycol products, to further strengthen its position as a regional market leader.

The launch was officiated by International Trade and Industry deputy minister Dr Ong Kian Ming and Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) group chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, during the official opening ceremony of the Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference 2018 (APIC 2018) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.

The 10 new brands are Petronas INA-9 for its isononanol product, Petronas Propelinas Homopolymer, Petronas Propelinas Copolymer and Petronas Propelinas Terpolymer for its polypropylene products, Petronas Etilinas Petlin for its low-density polyethylene products, Petronas Etilinas Alfatene and Petronas Etilinas Metalene for its linear low-density polyethylene products, Petronas Etinilas Chrom and Petronas Etilinas Trimod for its high-density polyethylene products, and Petronas GLYDE for its glycol product.

PetChem managing director and CEO Datuk Sazali Hamzah said these brands will carry the trust that the group has built towards good quality products and services delivered by PetChem to its customers.

“We are very excited about the branding of our existing as well as the upcoming products from our petrochemical plants in the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC),” he said.

Sazali said the group is positive with the current and upcoming growth projects that will further strengthen its position as a regional market leader.

“These projects will significantly grow our nameplate capacity to 14.6 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2020, from the current 12.7 million mtpa.

“Moving forward, we are stepping out by venturing into specialty chemicals segment to diversify our portfolio and future-proof our business.

“We are currently performing feasibility studies for our next phase of growth beyond 2020, in further downstream value chain at our existing facilities. In addition, we aspire to create optionality for growth by investing in innovative and breakthrough technologies through seed capital.

“We are also evaluating potential technology collaboration through mergers and acquisitions,” he said.

The Petronas Etilinas Petlin, Petronas Etilinas Chrom, Petronas Etilinas Alfatene and Petronas GLYDE are already available in the market.

The remaining products will be made available in the first quarter (Q1) of 2019, while Petronas INA-9 is scheduled to be available by Q4 2019.
