Cathay Pacific upbeat about prospectin Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd sees Malaysia as a potential growth market, backed by encouraging demand.

Country manager (Malaysia and Brunei) Anna Choi said the airline recently increased its flights from Penang to Hong Kong to twice daily, on top of the four daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong.

“We see Malaysia as a sustainable market. At this point, we have no plan to expand our services but we may review the market,” she told the New Straits Times recently.

Choi said the airline also offered freighter services from Penang to Hong Kong thrice weekly.

“We are quite happy with the load factor of more than half for our flights between Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur,”

Cathay Pacific is expected to expand its network using Hong Kong as a connectivity hub.

Choi said the airline had launched flights to Seattle in the United States and Komatsu in Japan this year.

Although there was a lot of competition, Choi said Cathay Pacific constantly improved its products and services as well as offered competitive fares.

“We will invest in modern and efficient aircraft, and improve on-ground and in-flight products. We are also taking delivery of new aircraft from now until 2024,” she said, adding that the airline would introduce new products and in-flight entertainment in the next few months, and modernise its meal plans for long-haul flights.
