TM's COO Imri Mokhtar resigns

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) chief operating officer (COO) Imri Mokhtar, who was once touted to be its chief executive officer (CEO), has resigned from the group.

In an internal email to its staff today, TM group CEO Datuk Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin said Imri had decided to leave the company effective from January 31 to pursue other opportunities.

“Imri’s contribution to TM, especially in his capacity as unifi executive vice president (EVP) and COO is vast. For that I would like to record our highest appreciation to him,” he said.

Imri, 46, was appointed as acting group CEO on November 16 2018, following the resignation of Datuk Bazlan Osman from the position.

He was the group CEO until the appointment of Noor Kamarul in June last year.

Imri then resumed his post as TM COO.

It was reported that TM chairman Rosli Man had refused to proceed with Imri’s appointment as the top executive despite the approval of the group’s special shareholder, the Minister of Finance Inc.

As COO of TM, Imri is responsible for the business operations of unifi, TM ONE, TM Global clusters and IT&NT of TM Group.

He first started his career with TM in 1996 and re-joined TM in 2005.

He had served in various positions in TM including programme and performance management office vice president and consumer EVP.

Prior to re-joining TM in 2005, Imri was at a pay-TV operator in Malaysia and before that a consultant at a global management consulting firm.

He is also a director of Webe Digital Sdn Bhd (webe), a subsidiary of TM.

Meanwhile, TM named Anand Vijayan as its new chief commercial officer effective from February 1.

Anand has over 24 years of experience in the telecommunications industry in Malaysia and Thailand.

He is responsible for unifi product development and marketing for consumer and SMEs as well as for the group’s regional operatsions.

The six regional heads would report to him, TM noted.

The group also announced that Moharmustaqeem Mohammed would be heading TM Net Sdn Bhd, reporting directly to the group CEO.
