KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) says the planned preventive maintenance works by the consortium of operators which maintains the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable network has been completed.
This means that data connectivity to sites and servers hosted in the US and Hong Kong are fully restored.
The AAG links networks between Malaysia and other Asian countries to the US and Hong Kong.
TM had previously shared that the maintenance works might affect some Internet services such as video conferencing, online gaming, VPN and instant messaging applications.
It also said that any potential service degradation would not only affect users in Malaysia but also other Internet users in the region.
In a statement today, TM said the maintenance works had been completed in five days from its start on April 17.
The group will continue to monitor its network performance together with its consortium partners in other countries.
TM said the impact to customers during the maintenance works had been minimal due to proactive rerouting of traffic to alternative routes.
"TM is now pleased to update that data connectivity to sites and servers hosted in Hong Kong and the US are now fully restored for your enjoyment.
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused and would like to thank you for your understanding and patience during the affected period.
"In the meantime, our support team is readily available and, as always, customers can reach out to us for enquiries and assistance via our multiple customer service channels,” it added.
