I-Berhad to lead 100 firms to help rejuvenate local economy

KUALA LUMPUR: I-Berhad, the developer of i-City ultrapolis, will lead over 100 corporations to do their part in getting the nation's economy back on track.

I-Berhad said it was doing this through Selangor's Golden Triangle (SGT) showcase next month to instil investor confidence and help stimulate the economy.

Its founder and chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong said the company was supporting the government's push for local companies to play their part and drive the economy forward.

Lim said as Malaysia continued to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and adjust to the requirements of the new social norm, he believes with the help of the government, business leaders and citizens, the nation can ride out the storm and become competitive once again in the international arena.

He said with the SGT showcase, I-Berhad would bring in major local and international corporations to explore opportunities, match-make and hopefully, develop new areas of cooperation to bolster or create new revenue streams.

The showcase, themed "The World of Digital Possibilities", will see the participation of some of the world's leading brands like Huawei, HIKvision, SenseTime, Tesla, BMW, TM and Doubletree Hilton.

It is scheduled to take place from October 1-4 at Central i-City shopping mall.

Lim said the aim of the showcase was to demonstrate how i-City and the SGT, located in the capital of Selangor, were undergoing continual and resolute economic transformation as part of the state's 25-year plan to become the epicentre of commerce and communications.

Selangor, with its almost 24 per cent contribution to Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP), is the country's largest contributor to the Malaysian economy.

It is the most progressive economic powerhouse with a median real GDP growth at 6.8 per cent per annum from 2014 to 2018.

It has the largest labour force and close to 24 per cent are professionals, followed by service and sales workers at 19.6 per cent.

"This showcase isn't just about developing interests and opportunities," Lim said, adding that there would be free health, tax, property talks, health and eye screening.

Visitors will get to test drive the new BMW and Tesla smart cars, and see wax exhibits like Mr Bean from the Red Carpet 2 wax museum.

Visitors will also be treated to free entry to Snow Village and other theme park attractions in i-City.
