Eversendai lifts the world's longest cantilever structure in the world

KUALA LUMPUR: Eversendai Corp Bhd is poised to set a world record in completing the construction of the "One Za'abeel", a high-rise mixed-use luxury development in Dubai featuring the longest cantilever structure in the world.

One Za'abeel is an iconic building with two towers that are linked 125-metre in the air by a 9,000-tonne bridge and a 230-metre long steel structure, which will top the list of engineering marvels once it is completed by end of 2021.

The engineering services company said the cantilever would also connect the twin high-rise buildings with a 300-metre tall Tower A that houses offices and hotel (the world's first vertical resort), and Tower B that stands at 235-metre tall oriented towards the residential units.

Eversendai said the first long section of the cantilever or bridge with a 192-metre length that connects the One Za'abeel towers had been lifted to its final position, 100 meters above ground level a few weeks ago.

The lift, one of the heaviest in the Middle East with a total weight of 8,500 tonnes, was carried out over three days with more than 24 heavy-duty strand jacks being used for the lifting process.

Eversendai said the second lift that will complete the link structure to reach its final length of 230-metre will be lifted next month.

Eversendai executive chairman and group managing director Tan Sri A K Nathan said the company's engineering expertise with its innovative construction methodology was set to propel it to "greater triumphs" in the coming years.

"I am extremely proud of our excellent team of engineers and highly skilled workforce for their dedication and commitment in lifting 'The Link' bridge safely and successfully adding to another historical Eversendai milestone achievement," he said in a statement today.

Nathan said Eversendai was proud to fly the Jalur Gemilang high by being a part of setting the world record for the longest cantilevered building in the world.

He said the One Za'abeel added on to Eversendai's long and colourful track record in constructing some of the world's most prestigious and high profile iconic landmark structures.

Eversendai began constructing its first high-rise building in 1991 with the 16 Collyer Quay, a 37-floor Tower, Chevron House, Republic Plaza and the State Court building in Singapore.

Other mega high-rise landmark buildings in the region included the Petronas Twin Tower 2 and the ongoing construction of the Merdeka PNB118 in Malaysia.

In other parts of the world, Eversendai had took part in constructing the Burj Al Arab, Emirates Towers, the Burj Khalifa (the world's tallest building), JW Marriott Marquis Hotel (tallest hotel in the world that occupies the entire building), Tiara Towers, ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai, and the Capital Gate (the leaning tower of Abu Dhabi), Al Shams Sky Tower in Abu Dhabi.

Additionally, Eversendai was part of the contractor to build the Statue of Unity (world's tallest statue) in India and the Kingdom Centre and the Capital Market Authority Tower in Saudi Arabia.

These highly complex structures executed by Eversendai had also been featured in Discovery and Mega Structures channels.
