Jonker Walk's dragon replica sets record as world's longest and largest

MELAKA: A 200-metre-long dragon replica at Jonker Walk has etched its name in the Malaysia Book of Records as the longest and largest replica in the world.

It has become one of the attractions for the Chinese New Year celebration at Jonker Walk, with a production cost of RM500,000.

The replica symbolises the magnificence, bravery, and unity of the people of this country, especially in Melaka.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented the certificate to the sponsor of the construction of the replica, Datuk Kenni Low, in the presence of the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, and Jonker Walk chairman, Datuk Gan Tian Loo.

The brief ceremony was held during the Prime Minister's friendly visit to Melaka today as part of his working visit.

In addition to the dragon replica, which is the main attraction of the Year of the Dragon according to the beliefs of the Chinese community, the Jonker Walk Committee has also installed more than 1,000 large lanterns at Jonker Walk to enliven the celebration further.

The committee also plans to hold a dragon parade at Jonker Walk on Feb 21 to prepare for next year's World Tourism Day.
