TNB's smart installation continues amid CMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) says its smart meter installation work continues as usual during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), which ends on October 27 this year.

TNB said the smart meter installation work covering Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam and Putrajaya/Cyberjaya was ongoing.

TNB project director, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) Ir. Mohamed Ghous Ahmad said as one of the business operations permitted during CMCO, TNB was continuing with the installation in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP).

"Each installation process takes only about 30 minutes.

"It is subjected to strict compliance of the SOP set by the authorities to ensure the safety of Smart Meter installers and customers, including measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic," said Mohamed Ghous.

As of October 16, a total of 608,976 units of smart meters had been installed in the Klang Valley and Melaka.

"TNB will notify customers ahead of the smart meter installation via a letter. The installation work will be carried out by contractors appointed by TNB," it said.

Mohamed Ghous said smart meter users had the advantage to control the pattern of their daily electricity usage, reduce wastage and carbon footprint, as well as manage their monthly expenditure.

He said the smart meters enable TNB customers to monitor their electricity usage daily through myTNB portal (www.mytnb.com.my) and application (can be downloaded from Google Play, Apple App Store and Huawei AppGallery).

"Electricity bills can also be paid online via the same portal.

"Smart meter users also receive their monthly bill via myTNB portal and app promptly on the date of the billing cycle," he added.
