Lazada, Nutribah to help digitalise Sabah's agriculture sector

KUALA LUMPUR: Lazada Malaysia has partnered with Sabah's wellness hub and organic superfood producer Nutribah to support the digitalisation of the state's agriculture sector by promoting products from local organic farmers.

The collaboration is meant to address the scarcity of appropriate distribution channels for the farmers in Sabah to sell their crops and products.

Lazada Malaysia said through the partnership, Nutribah and local organic farmers in the state can expand their reach to more than one-third of Malaysians who shop on the ecommerce platform, thus generating more income for the farmers.

Lazada Malaysia chief operating officer Darren Rajaratnam said there was a growing demand for fresh produce and wellness-related items and products among Malaysian consumers.

"We are happy to welcome Nutribah and their network of organic farmers to the Lazada family to provide shoppers direct and easy access to said products.

"Supporting Sabah's efforts to digitalise its agricultural sector is also part of our ongoing commitment to enable sellers and help build sustainable local communities," he said in a statement.

Nutribah executive director Preston Sean Soh noted that agro-food producers often faced challenges in market access, particularly in East Malaysia.

"Through our cooperation with Lazada, our producers are able to directly sell their produce and products to customers at a reduced cost and we're able to offer logistics services for buyers.

"This capacity to engage directly with consumers also provides our farmers with a more stable income stream," said Soh.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with Hari Gawai and Kaamatan festival, Lazada's 6.6 Gen Raya sale from May 27 to June 2, 2022 will offer exclusive free shipping vouchers to shoppers in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.

This aims to drive traffic and boost revenue for its sellers there such as Nutribah, Sabah Tea and EAcommerce.

The company said in addition to the free shipping vouchers, Lazada users im Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan can receive RM5 off their order with a special Boost voucher when spending a minimum of RM80.
