Ablr to promote ethical financing for consumers via BNPL service

KUALA LUMPUR: Ablr, which marks its debut on Malaysia's Buy Now Pay Later scene today, is focused on promoting ethical financing for its consumers through its BNPL service.

The company said it provided a "unique" proposition to the country's growing BNPL scene by integrating flexible plans and presenting a different approach by embedding ethical financing through its products and services.

Its chief executive officer Amanda Chin said as a BNPL firm with a difference, Ablr offered a range of life fulfilling and life enhancing products and services to meet the fast evolving and discerning needs of Malaysians.

"More and more people are exploring new ways to pay that are convenient, safe, sustainable, more budget-friendly with great deals, and together without partners, we look forward to serving this untapped market for big ticket essentials.

"With Ablr, consumers can now pay for their families' healthcare treatments, their children's online music classes or upskilling courses for themselves with easy, fixed monthly instalments from 30 days up to 60 months, depending on the plans  on offer by our growing list of merchants," said Chin at a media briefing.

Ablr currently has a network of over 30 brands in Malaysia and Singapore spanning over 250 merchant points.

On the government's move to regulate BNPL players in the country, Chin said Ablr had been in constant engagement with the Consumer Credit Oversight Board (CCOB) to seek ways to support the agenda.

With regards to its growth plans, Chin said the group aspired to expand in other markets within the region.

"We are looking at about the end of next year, the sooner would be better. However our focus at least in the next 12 months would be in Malaysia," she said.

Ablr is also focused on growing partnerships to provide more options for Malaysian consumers while enabling them to spend more responsibly and manage finances better.

"Gen Z and millennials are the greatest users of BNPL and we see the demand on types of products and services shifting as they become working individuals or progress in their careers.

"We want the products and services on Ablr and the merchants we onboard to reflect that shift and provide for meaningful, important offerings that add value throughout the different stages of their life cycle," she added.
