DNB ready to cooperate with govt on 5G rollout review

KUALA LUMPUR: Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) is committed to working with the government and will extend its fullest cooperation to facilitate the review proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

DNB, in a statement, said the tender process, as the company has previously stated, was managed by Ernst & Young, one of the top four global accounting firms, and was conducted transparently.

"DNB hopes the review, as proposed by the prime minister, will clear the air and enable full execution and implementation of the 5G rollout for the nation's benefit," it said.

DNB was established in March 2021 to deploy Malaysia's 5G network and infrastructure on an accelerated schedule, which presently covers approximately 38 per cent of populated areas nationwide.

DNB said the network is on track to cover 80 per cent by 2024—or nearly 28 million people—within three years of becoming available in December 2021.

To date, five major mobile network operators (MNOs) – Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), U Mobile Sdn Bhd, and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YES) – have commenced retail 5G services to end users, following the execution of their respective Access Agreements with DNB on Oct 31, 2022.
