Bursa Malaysia settles firmer at midday on interest in heavyweights

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia maintained its momentum to close in positive territory supported by heavyweights such as financial services and plantation sectors.

At 12.30pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 0.15 per cent or 2.32 points to 1,533.83 versus Wednesday's close of 1,531.51.

The key index, which opened 0.19 of-a-point higher at 1,531.70, moved between 1,531.70 and 1,539.60.

The broader market saw decliners edging slightly higher than gainers 417 to 417 whil 424 counters remained unchanged.

On the index board, FBM Emas was up 0.14 per cent to 11,376.73 and FBM 100 rose 0.12 per cent to 11,040.18 while FBM ACE shed 0.21 per cent to 4,671.42.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd expects buying support within the commodities sectors like the oil and gas, gold and plantation sectors to be firmer in view of potential interest rate cuts going forward, albeit timing is not confirmed.

"Besides, we favour selected technology stocks with solid balance sheets and high dividend yield counters, while the consumer sector will be favourable under this cautious environment," it added.
