Malaysia Airlines to start direct flights to Male, Da Nang & Chiang Mai

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) is set to improve connectivity from its primary hub with the introduction of new direct routes to Malé in Maldives, Da Nang in Vietnam and Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Starting from Aug 1, the airline will launch daily flights to Male, daily flights to Da Nang will commence from Sept 24, and Chiang Mai will be served five times a week from Aug 15.

"This will mark the airline's 13th destination in South Asia and 16th in Asean as it seeks to boost its presence within key markets, strengthening its position as the gateway to Asia and beyond in line with its commercial elevation journey.

"As a member of the oneworld alliance, Malaysia Airlines currently offers superior connectivity to more than 900 destinations in 170 territories across the globe," Malaysia Airlines said in a statement.

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said Malaysia Airlines remains resilient despite going through a chequered journey over the last decade.

"Having stabilised our balance sheet and recording our strongest-ever financial year performance since the past decade, we are now in a stronger position to steer our focus towards accelerating investments into our product and service delivery to elevate the customer experience," he added.

Simultaneously, the airline announced its new A330neo business class and economy class seats which marks a step in its fleet modernisation plan with the first delivery scheduled in the third quarter of 2024.

It positions the airline as a global leader in passenger experience and innovation, being the first carrier to feature Elevation seats on the A330 airframe.
