Bursa Malaysia bucks regional trend

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed lower on Tuesday, going against the generally positive trend in regional markets.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI dropped 6.69 points or 0.42 per cent to 1,575.97, down from Monday's closing of 1,582.66.

Despite this, the broader market saw a balanced performance with slightly more gainers (524) than losers (520), and a significant number of counters remaining unchanged at 494.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd noted that there was selling pressure observed in YTL counters before the public holiday.

"The market sentiment might be cautious leading up to the Federal Open Market Committee meeting.

"The transportation and logistics sector (+1.26 per cent) was the leading sector due to buying interest in Chin Hin Group Property Bhd (+19.0 sen) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (+6.0 sen), while the utilities sector (-0.68 per cent) fell due to selling pressure in YTL Power International Bhd (-19.0 sen)," it added.
