MyCC has not initiatied investigations into rice cartel allegations

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) today said that it has not initiated any investigation against any parties in the paddy and rice industry with regards to rice cartel allegations

The commission was responding to recent news it is set to investigate into a series of allegations surrounding the paddy and rice industry.

MyCC said it is yet to receive any information from any parties, particularly the Office of Paddy and Rice Monitoring (KPB) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

However, it confirmed that KPB will be meeting with MyCC on Jan 19 on the matter.

"MyCC would like to emphasise that we wrote to KPB in Oct 2023 expressing our readiness to understand and discuss the issues surrounding the paddy and rice industry to provide our input relating to any competition concerns, if any," it said in a statement today.

MyCC also urged all parties, especially the media, to exercise caution and stop making any speculations, especially since KPB issued a formal statement on Jan 4, stating that based on their findings, there are no issues on competition relating to the paddy and rice industry.
