Better performance with Petronas Sprinta

PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia Sdn Bhd has launched its flagship range of motorcycle lubricants, the Petronas Sprinta with Ultraflex.

With prices from RM15 to RM70 per one-litre bottle, the lubricants are formulated to resist engine stress and promote longer motorcycle life.

In a statement, Petronas Lubricants said tests conducted using global industry standards had shown that Petronas Sprinta with Ultraflex was able to provide up to 41 per cent higher oil film strength than benchmark standards.

“This helps engines endure the effects of load, speed and engine stress without breaking down, while allowing motorcycles to respond better.

“The new range of lubricants also offers exceptional deposit control, thus maintaining power and ride quality,” said chief executive officer Zubair Abdul Razak.

At present, there is an estimated 11.6 million motorcycles nationwide, with a compounded annual growth rate of four per cent.

“A recent consumer study revealed that 81 per cent of motorcyclists ride every day, and 70 per cent rely on their motorcycles to get around.

“Daily use puts a lot of stress on the engines, even under normal riding conditions. As a result, many consumers constantly worry about their motorcycles breaking down, forcing them to do costly repairs or major overhauls,” said Zubair.

Petronas Lubricants International regional head for Asia Pacific Mohd Khalid Mohamed Latiff said motorcycle stress was caused by high shear conditions resulting from severe mechanical stress and high temperatures inside the engine, which could be to 33 per cent higher than in car engines.

“Left unmanaged, these issues can lead to rattling noises and sluggish performance.

“Combining our century-long expertise in lubricant technology and consumer-focused innovation, Petronas Sprinta with Ultraflex is formulated to address the issues that owners face to provide a better riding experience and longer motorcycle life,” said Khalid.

He added that the company’s growth ambition was built on technology as a fundamental differentiator to continuously deliver superior products and services to meet consumer needs.

“Our commitment to research and technology includes a US$60 million (RM264.5 million) investment in a technology centre in Turin, Italy, which will be completed by the end of the year.” he said.

Khalid said Petronas’ lubricant brand was the 10th largest in the world.

“The company aims to be the Top 5 lubricant brand in the world in five years,” said Khalid.

Zubair said Petronas was the second largest lubricant brand in Malaysia.

“Our aim is to be the No. 1 lubricant player in Malaysia by the end of next year.

“We plan to triple our revenue contribution from the motorcycle lubricant segment in one year, from one to three per cent,” he said.
