TwinBOSS, the star of 'Art of Speed 2017'

THERE is “trouble” brewing on the horizon this month. The Art of Speed Malaysia is concocting a special machine for its annual giveaway lucky draw and they call it the TwinBOSS.

Basically, the TwinBOSS is a twin-engined Yamaha RX-Z. Much loved by Malaysia’s biking youth, the Yamaha RX-Z is no longer in production but still commands †attention and admiration.

Recently, prices of well-preserved units of the model have risen dramatically. The many Malaysian bike shows and the growth of the “retro” craze have driven prices of the RX-Z through the roof.

Asep Ahmad Iskandar, the founder of the show, is tapping into the RX-Z frenzy.

“We feel the RX-Z is part of Kustom Kulture and it represents Malaysia’s youth and vitality. What better machine to giveaway than twice an RX-Z? The TwinBOSS was inspired by the digger-styled machines from the United States, which look like dragster racing motorcycles.”

The TwinBOSS actually is an amalgam of old and new building techniques. The hand-beaten aluminium body (currently being built) covers a CATIA-designed, CNC machined chassis which cradles two engines.

The RX-Z is an air-cooled 135cc two stroke machine, so the TwinBOSS is actually 270cc of two-stroke fury, 100 per cent built by Malaysians.

The BOSS moniker is from one of the many variants of the RX-Z model. The engines are linked to each other by a heavy-duty chain and the whole bike is built long and low, just like a dragster. However, with performance in mind, Art of Speed is building it light as well, with many one-off and lightweight parts scattered throughout the build.

The TwinBOSS is valued at RM35,000 and is only one of the many lucky draw prizes. On the first day of the show, a CMC XY400 will be won by a lucky winner. The TwinBOSS is reserved for the second and last day of Art of Speed.

The sixth incarnation of Art of Speed will commence on July 29-30 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park, Serdang, †from 10am to 7.00pm.

Besides the myriad custom bikes and cars and prizes that visitors can vie for, there are also many automotive and corporate booths as well as parts and accessories, pinstriping and tattoo artists, as well as other attractions.

This year’s edition will feature celebrities of Kustom Kulture such as Jun Imai, Lead Designer of Hot Wheels, David ‘Chopper Dave’ Freston, old school custom builder extraordinaire and Cole Foster of Salinas Boys Customs, car and motorcycle builder for Hollywood stars.

Save the date on your calendar and pray you win the TwinBOSS.
