The Kuala Lumpur Art Book Fair is set to dazzle art enthusiasts

GET ready for the third edition of the Kuala Lumpur Art Book Fair (KLABF), a highly anticipated event that's back with a bang!

From Dec 8 to Dec 10, the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) will turn into a bustling hub for art enthusiasts, featuring independent publishers, artists, rare art books, exclusive collectibles and exciting programmes.

Spanning an impressive 7,000 square feet of exhibition space, KLABF 2023 promises to be a haven for readers, designers and art lovers. With 112 exhibitors from over 13 countries, both local and international, this year's fair is set to be the biggest and best yet.

Since 2021, KLABF is a unique annual event that celebrates contemporary art, design and printed materials spearheaded by LIE Design.

It's a one-of-a-kind platform in Malaysia that brings together creative minds and self-publishing enthusiasts from around the world. At KLABF, you can explore the captivating world of indie publishers, artbook creators and artists all under one roof.

The fair's mission is to showcase art books as a creative medium, and if last year's offerings are any indication, visitors can expect to be amazed by innovative expressions that redefine the concept of books.

A total of 52 of exhibitors are from overseas, such as China, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, the Netherlands and the United States.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Exciting highlights await visitors at KLABF 2023, with a diverse line-up that promises visual delights. Keep an eye out for Raja Azeem Idzham, also known as Ajim Juxta, an award-winning Malaysian visual artist and lyricist known for his explorations of architecture, dystopia and mythology. His unique approach to art combines various media to make sense of a world that often feels off-kilter.

And don't miss Grafis Nusantara, an Indonesian collective dedicated to preserving and reproducing vintage label stickers. They have some incredibly rare collectibles in their digital archive.

Other highlights include Singapore's In Plain Words, an editorial studio that delves into everyday life through food and design, and South Korea's Sojanggak, specialising in crafting books that capture the beauty of visual culture and narratives from Southeast Asia.

You'll also have the chance to admire the work of Enya Lim, the youngest exhibitor who is a 10-year-old self-taught artist from Malaysia, whose charming doodles have adorned various canvases.

But that's not all! In addition to a wide range of art books, zines, magazines and limited-run prints, KLABF 2023 offers an array of book launches, talks, sharing sessions, hands-on workshops and exhibitions.

To make the fair's experience even more special, KLABF has partnered with Cahaya Create and G.F. Smith to create an art installation featuring a stunning display of multi-coloured paper clouds. Get ready to immerse yourself in the world of art and creativity at KLABF 2023!
