Shah Alam: RM3,500 fine to teach drivers parking discipline

THOSE who park illegally in Shah Alam will now have their vehicles towed away and stand to be fined up to RM3,500.

The move, reported by an English daily early this week, was made following haphazard parking by heavy vehicles such as buses and lorries on road kerbs, dividers, fields, parks as well as other open spaces.

The report quoted mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad as saying that the vehicles were an obstruction to the residents of the area.

He added that most of the drivers parked overnight, and some remained parked at a spot for days, even weeks.

In addition to the RM3,500 fine, the motorists would also have to pay RM50 per day as storage fee.

No more Booth Babes

First it was F1.

Now, political movements seem destined to change the landscape of motor shows as well.

The #metoo movement, which popped online following the public revelations of sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein has now made its way to the Geneva Motor Show.

Bloomberg reported earlier this week that the ubiquitous booth babes, staple of almost any motor show worldwide, will be banished at the Geneva show this year.

Some of the car makers that have already bowed to pressure include Ssangyong. Automakers including Toyota Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co have also said they will cut back on the use of the models in the Geneva show, reported Bloomberg.

According to the report, Lexus will drop altogether the use of models, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV had cancelled its contracts with models.

A spokeswoman for the show said exhibitors were free to choose how they wanted to present their vehicles.

Formula One last month said it would not hire grid girls, branding the use of women dressed in such a way was as at odds with modern society.
