A Ferrari for four

Ferrari GTC4Lusso is the enhanced version and successor of the Ferari FF.

It is also the Prancing Horse’s first all-wheel-drive variant with the capability to carry four occupants a time.

The Italian luxury sports carmaker offered the GTC4Lusso in two engine variants, the 6.3-litre V12 and the 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which is also known as the GTC4Lusso T.

We took the GTC4Lusso for a drive and find it acceptable for daily usage without sacrificing performance and with a touch of “lusso”, which means luxury in Italian.

Powering the GTC4Lusso is a 6.3-litre V12 naturally aspirated engine paired with a F1 seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The result is a maximum power output of 680hp at 8,000rpm and 697Nm of torque at 5,750rpm.

Ferrari claims that the GTC4Lusso can sprint from zero to 100kph in 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 335kph.

Coming in at 4,922mm in length, 1,980mm in width, 1,383mm in height and a wheel base of 2,990mm, it weighs 1,800kg and has 450 litres of boot space, as well as 91litres of fuel tank capacity.

THE DRIVE

The Ferarri GTC4Lusso is a luxury four-seater sports car that is suited for daily commutes.

It is packed with loads of new features such as the dual cockpit concept dashboard. The passenger and driver’s cockpits are separated by a central 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The passenger display is now a touchscreen display that is wider and more colourful than before. It shows the GTC4Lusso’s revs, speed, G-force data, radio channel and so much more.

Another new feature available in the GTC4Lusso is the multi-function steering wheel. It features the two-way signal buttons, scroll-type switches and dial buttons for the audio volume control and wiper speed control.

Its interior is very spacious and comfortable. Even though the vehicle doesn’t look large on the outside, the front cabin can nevertheless fit in any 190cm large frame adult with headroom, shoulder room and legroom to spare. As for the back occupants, a 185cm adult can still fit in, with just enough headroom, but he or she might not have enough leg room if there’s a tall adult in front.

The materials used are of the finest quality, which complement the richness and comfort of the interior.

The comfort level has also been improved with a quieter cabin. The engine sounds wonderful at high revs but is not deafening. Apart from that, the wind noise and tyre noise is isolated from the cabin.

On the straight, the GTC4Lusso can surpass the triple-digit speed mark exceptionally quickly and the Brembo brakes brings it down quickly. It is nimble and it offers tremendous grip during high speed corners. Even without activating the bumpy road mode, the four-seater shooting brake overcomes most rough and damaged road conditions easily and gracefully. Only the bigger bumps and potholes were felt.

With all the technologies available on board, such as the active four-wheel steering system, E-diff rear electronic differential, F1-influenced traction control, Electronic stability control, Magnaride SCM-E suspension damping system, 4RM-S four-wheel drive system and SSC4, the GTC4Lusso may be one of the best grand tourers ever made.

Ferrari’s engineers and designers have done a fabulous job by making every important switch and button around the steering wheel, at the tip of the driver’s fingers. It allows the driver to fully concentrate on the road.

Normally, most Ferrari models are not convenient for daily use as it could be too loud and only able to carry one passenger. However, this is not the case for the GTC4Lusso.

It has enough boot space for groceries and is able to ferry three family members or friends and, most importantly, the engine’s roar will not wake the whole neighbourhood.
