KUALA LUMPUR: UMW TOYOTA Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) is set to empower more segments of the community including differently abled children and students via a realignment of its corporate social responsibility programme (CSR).
In line with Toyota's global initiative themed "Start Your Impossible", UMWT will be working with the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (MPC) to enable more differently abled children to participate in sports. This effort will kickstart with the Toyota Outrun fun run, a fundraiser activity this Nov 17 at Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.
The fun run is designed to cater to 3,000 participants and proceeds from this event will be channelled to MPC's "Fitness and Exercise with Person with Disabilities" programme.
"The funds will be used to equip para athlete trainers around Klang Valley with the skills to train differently abled children. We believe that this would be a sustained effort to discover more hidden talents among children with disability and help them achieve their dream in sports," said UMWT deputy chairman Akio Takeyama.
UMWT also appointed national athlete and paralympic champion, Abdul Latif Romly as its ambassador for this campaign.
"Latif was up against impossible odds at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. The world saw him broke the T20 long jump world record three times on the same day. It was impossible. Then it wasn’t. At Toyota, mobility is about overcoming challenges and making dreams a reality. That’s why we’re teaming up with Latif to support differently abled children so they too can start their impossible," noted Takeyama.
Registering for the Toyota Outrun fun run can be done beginning Sept 10, 2019 at https://toyota.com.my/startyourimpossible. A participation fee of RM50 per person will apply.
Meanwhile Toyota's CSR initiative through music will continue through Toyota Classics, which will bring on Oct 29 the London Chamber Orchestra. Under the baton of conductor Christopher Warren Green, the highlight of this upcoming performance include notes from soloist Lucienne Ranaudin Vary.
The Toyota Classics tickets are priced at RM100, RM150, RM200 and RM250 will be available for sale starting 10 September 2019 at DFP Box Office or at https://toyota.com.my/discover/toyota-classics-2019.
Part of the proceeds from the event will be used to restore mangrove areas in Sulaman, Tuaran with the help of Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society, the area's local community as well as 13,000 students from neighbouring schools and university.
In addition, students from the Faculty of Music, Universiti Teknologi MARA will be given the opportunity to have a workshop with the orchestra members, providing them exposure of international orchestra performances.
Another part will go to University Malaysia Pahang's outreach program which will have its students interact and increase the interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among the youth and community of Lanchang.
