2019 Rainforest Challenge Grand Finale off to a wet start

KOTA BARU: Rain drenched the land throughout the flag off day of the 2019 Rainforest Challenge Grand Finale, causing a massive muddy affair for participants and spectators alike.

Deemed one of the world’s top 10 toughest motor races the event sponsored by Petron saw 450 participants from 20 countries taking part in the 4x4 competition to brave through one of Malaysia’s densest tropical forests during the monsoon season.

All participating vehicles were fueled with Petron’s Turbo Diesel Euro 5 which is said to be an environmentally-friendly diesel with turbo power capacity.

“This is our fourth collaboration with RFC, fueling the globally recognised race and underscoring the capability of our technologically-advanced Petron Turbo Diesel Euro 5, which delivers better power, excellent engine protection, and better mileage,” said Petron Malaysia’s head of retail and commercial business Choong Kum Choy.

“Petron Turbo Diesel Euro 5 has long proven to deliver supreme power and force to 4x4 vehicles since it first fueled the competition in 2016.

“Petron Turbo Diesel Euro 5 is specifically formulated to improve engine performance, ensure better fuel economy, and extend engine life.

“The fuel also gives improved ignition quality and excellent protection against corrosion.

“With very low Sulphur content of 10 parts per million, it is indeed 50 times cleaner than Euro 2M diesel, thus helping to reduce exhaust emissions.

“The underlying formulation of Petron Turbo Diesel Euro 5 performance is its TriAction Advantage premium additives,” added Choong.

He said it contained detergent to help clean up and keep the engine inlet system clean, and a friction modifier that helped to reduce friction between the piston and cylinder wall.

“In a race where skills and machines are competing against nature, the right fuel will help vehicles to achieve superior performance to win.”

Founder and creator of the Rainforest Trophy, Luis J.A. Wee said” “The focus on full racing aspects this year will be tough as teams will try to overcome 50 Special Stages (SS).

“Only the best combination of man and machine, plus the right fuel and engine oil will propel the teams for a podium finish.”

The 2019 Rainforest Challenge Grand Finale held in Kelantan from Nov 29 to Dec 9 is the year’s final event from the annual RFC Global Series (RFCGS), a worldwide off-road racing circuit spanning 25 nations with 45 events.

This year is said to have set a record for 4x4 racing as the event focuses on racing aspects with at least 50 Special Stages (SS).

The route will take participants across Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, and will end in Gua Musang with a two-day carnival on Dec 8 and 9.

Stages of the race are named Predator, Terminator, and Twilight Zone which include navigating the endless steep downhill and uphill, crossing V gullies, tropical swamps, and steering around the brown-red mud pools.

Vehicles will stop over at Petron service stations in Kota Baru, Pasir Putih, Laloh and Gua Musang for refuelling before continuing their journey into Kelantan’s off-road ex-logging trails.

Petron is the official diesel sponsor and engine oil partner of the 2019 Rainforest Challenge Grand Finale in Malaysia.

The brand’s Turbo Diesel Euro 5 is now available at over 190 stations in Peninsular Malaysia and will be rolled-out across more sites in the coming months.
