Lazada, Miros collaborate on child car seat awareness programme

KUALA LUMPUR: Lazada Malaysia and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to raise awareness on the importance of child restraint systems (CRS) in reducing road fatalities.

Part of the MoU comes with the Car Seat Assurance programme, a curation of CRS products on LazMall that meet the United Nations’ ECE R44/04 and ECE R129 specifications.

The initiative comes ahead of the enforcement of the use of CRS beginning on Jan 1.

“We are honoured to kickstart a long-term relationship by working closely with Miros on this collaboration.

“Through Lazada’s Car Seat Assurance programme, we are able to make regulation-compliant CRS products more accessible to mums and dads out there to protect their little ones,” said Lazada Malaysia chief business officer Kevin Lee.

“Safety should not be a luxury, and our selection of curated car seats at varying price points provides an assortment of options for individual needs at all stages of growth.

“This will also help facilitate the adoption of CRS use and reduce the number of fatalities involving children.”

Car seats under this programme can be identified via the Lazada Car Seat Assurance icon, authorised for use only for product models that have undergone a thorough selection process.

Lazada assures that each car seat bearing this icon are sold by sellers who have submitted to Lazada copies of UNR44 or UNR129 certificates — strict and comprehensive sets of child car seat safety regulations by the UN, as well as crash test reports.

This product documentation has also been submitted to Miros for further evaluation as part of an ongoing process to ensure that product safety is not compromised.

Currently, more than 40 product models from six local and international brands on LazMall carry the Lazada Car Seat Assurance icon, with prices ranging from RM100 to RM 1,599.

The six local and international CRS brands covered under the programme are: Joie, Koopers, Sweet Cherry, Quinton, Sweet Heart Paris and Chicco.

Miros director-general Dr Siti Zaharah Ishak said: “We are delighted to have Lazada onboard to carry out this initiative which will contribute to the government’s objectives to reduce serious road traffic injuries and fatalities.

“Through the Lazada Car Seat Assurance programme, we hope to educate more parents on the importance of CRS use and choosing the appropriate CRS for their children which meets the requirements detailed in the Guidelines for Child Restraint System in Malaysia.

“We also need to change the perception that regulation compliant car seats are unaffordable and make it easier for Malaysians to purchase car seats from wherever they may be and accessible throughout Malaysia.”
