KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia introduced the New BMW X1 sDrive20i M Sport and the New BMW 320i Sport, two new variants to their portfolio of locally-assembled vehicles in Malaysia.
BMW Group Malaysia managing director Harald Hoelzl said, “We are welcoming the new year with a new chapter to our Story of Thrilling Sportiness with the new X1 sDrive20i M Sport and 320i Sport.
"Both are locally-assembled and are from the best-selling segments of our portfolio in Malaysia. The 3 Series variant brings a modern thrill to the sports segment, while the new Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) presents a renewed sense of athleticism to the X range.”
BMW reportedly sold over 2,500 units of BMW 3 Series models in Malaysia last year.
“This success continues to underline our lead in the premium sports sedan segment of Malaysia, bolstering our expansions into adding more locally-assembled BMW vehicles in our Kulim facility.
“The BMW X models also charted record highs in our local deliveries last year, accounting for more than 43 per cent of vehicles in the BMW portfolio delivered in 2019. With these strong figures, we are confident that 2020 will present more opportunities for our segment-leading models to rise with the local automotive industry,” Hoelzl added.
BMW X1 sDrive20i M Sport
Priced at RM233,800, the BMW X1 sDrive20i M Sport is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a 7-Speed Steptronic Dual Clutch Sport transmission, that will allow it to go from 0-100 in 7.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 224km/h, a maximum output of 192hp at 5,000-6,000rpm, and a peak torque of 280 Nm at 1,350-4,600rpm.
Combined fuel consumption comes at 6.5 litres per 100km of travel and a combined carbon emission of 149g/km.
An M Leather steering wheel is affixed as standard, and the luggage compartment has a maximum capacity of 1,550 litres.
Inside, the interior’s trim finishes are in aluminium and Pearl Chrome. The central element for infotainment is the new 8.8-inch touchscreen navigation system located in the middle of the dashboard – which can be used to control entertainment and navigation functions, with voice control and the iDrive controller on the centre console available as alternative input methods.
BMW’s ConnectedDrive services are also available to the new SAV.
Offered in four colours: Misano Blue, Black Sapphire, Alpine White and Mineral Grey; and paired with premium Black Leather Dakota upholstery with perforations, the vehicle features 18-inch M light alloy wheels in double-spoke style 570 M Bicolour.
It will be available at pop-ups and all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide from Jan 13.
BMW 320i Sport
For RM243,800 the new BMW 320i Sport features a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, paired with the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. Achieving a century sprint in 7.1 seconds, the sports sedan is capable of generating a top speed of 235km/h, with a maximum output of 184hp at 5,000-6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm at 1,350-4,000 rpm.
It consumes 6.3 litres of fuel per 100 km, generates 144g/km of CO2, and is equipped with 18-inch light alloy wheels in V-Spoke Style 780 Bicolour.
The cabin features a three-zone automatic climate control, interior trim finishes in aluminium ‘mesheffect’, complete with the exclusive sport leather steering wheel which adds to the thrilling driving experience.
It comes with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus – an analogue instrument cluster with 5.7-inch display and 8.8-inch touch sensitive control display.
A first in its segment is a reverse assistant for hands-free, semi-autonomous convenience when reversing in narrow streets, along with a rear view camera that is fitted as standard.
These features are powered by the BMW Operating System 6, which also powers the BMW Digital Key for next-level vehicle security and management.
The car employs Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that allows the new BMW 320i Sport to lock and unlock and even start the engine with the newest compatible cell-phones and without needing a physical key.
It comes in five colours: Mediterranean Blue, Black Sapphire, Alpine White, Mineral Grey and Sunset Orange, paired with premium Black Leather Vernasca upholstery.
It is now available nationwide.
Both the BMW X1 sDrive20i M Sport and the BMW 320i Sport can be owned with monthly instalment plans starting from RM2,668 and RM2,788 respectively (based on estimates of an 80 per cent loan on a five-year tenure).
