School uniforms for flood victims

Students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kedai Tanjong in Pasir Mas, Kelantan who were affected by the flood received new school uniforms to start off their new school year.

The programme was part of the relief efforts by iM4U for the flood victims in Kelantan.

Through a national Back to School initiative, iM4U together with Kamdar Bhd (Kamdar) and GIATMARA Malaysia provides less fortunate children with new school uniforms to begin their new school term. The collaboration saw 560 school uniforms being distributed to children across 14 primary schools nationwide. A total of 50 volunteers from GIATMARA were involved in sewing the fabric for the school uniforms that were provided by Kamdar.

iM4U chief executive officer Rudy Malik said: “With all relief programmes, we want to assist families in rebuilding and recovering their livelihoods following the aftermath. We hope that our efforts in providing school uniforms to the children affected by the floods will allow them to go back to school fresh and renewed. We would like to thank Kamdar and GIATMARA volunteers who made this programme possible.”

Kamdar Terengganu brand manager Zawaiti Husain said: “We are grateful to have had this opportunity to leverage our expertise in textiles in providing a helping hand to the communities in need. The comfort of going to school with new uniforms will give the flood-affected children a sense of normalcy and a fresh start. We want to thank iM4U for the chance to participate in this recovery effort.”

GIATMARA Malaysia chief executive officer Jamal Nasir Ohtman said: “This programme helps to encourage our students to fully utilise their services and skills for a greater cause. As an educational institution, we are able to enrich our students’ experiences through this programme by providing them first-hand exposure on making a difference and a positive impact via volunteerism.”

For the first two months of the year, iM4U also worked with various organisations in an effort to support and provide post-flood relief to families in need. iM4U started its flood relief efforts from day one, providing immediate response teams and volunteers to set up shelters and assist families as they coped with the impacts of the floods.

Additionally, iM4U worked with P&G Malaysia and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to distribute hygiene kits made up of towels, toothbrushes, toothpastes, shampoos, shavers and sanitary pads to flood relief centres across Malaysia following the aftermath of the second wave of floods.
