Terengganu flood victims can attend school in casual clothes

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Education Department gives flexibility to students affected by the floods to attend school in casual clothes when schools reopen on Jan 2.

Deputy director (school management sector) Azman Othman @ Abdullah said the department understood the difficulties faced by flood victims and would work to ease their burden.

"I advise the students to come to school in casual clothing if their uniforms have been damaged or washed away by the floods.

"If their stationery or books are damaged, don't worry. Just come to school.

"They can report it to the class teacher," he said yesterday.

Azman said the post-flood cleaning at schools were being carried out by District Education Offices with the help of communities.

Azman said the third wave of floods that started on Dec 24 had affected 32 schools, especially in the Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Setiu districts.

"Five other schools are still operating as relief centres.

"They are SK Durian Mentangau, SK Tanjung Pati, SK Padang Pulut, and SK Delong in Dungun, as well as SMK Merchang, Marang."

Up to 10am, the situation continued to improve in the flood-hit areas of Terengganu with 733 evacuees from 198 families at 13 relief centres in Marang, Kuala Nerus and Dungun. Bernama
