Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is offering interest-free loans and installment plans as part of its financial initiatives to help students affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO).
UTAR, in a statement, said struggling students who required financial aid to support daily expenses could apply for a one-time, interest-free bridging loan of RM500 and below. The loan, which does not require a guarantor, would be disbursed directly into the applicant’s bank account.
For an interest-free loan of more than RM500, a guarantor is required with the amount credited into the applicant’s bank account upon the receipt of a completed agreement from the student.
UTAR is also offering a tuition fee installment plan for new Malaysian students enrolling for the May 2020 trimester intake for foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for full-time and part-time studies.
The payment is divided into three tranches. The first payment is RM409 for all programmes, except for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Chinese Medicine (TCM) programmes, where the first payment is RM709. The second instalment is 40 per cent of the remaining fees, to be paid by the end of week six of the trimester. This is followed by the third payment, where students are required to pay 60 per cent of the remaining fees by the end of week twelve of the trimester.
The mentioned financial initiatives are in addition to the current scholarship and loan schemes.
UTAR hoped that the aid would lessen the financial burden of the students and their families in these trying times.
All applications are subjected to approvals within the requirements set by the university. Students may apply for the interest-free loans through the University website at www.utar.edu.my .
