(Showbiz) Singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan appeals to fans to assist victims of floods in Penang

KUALA LUMPUR: Moved by the hardship faced by Penangites who are putting up with the island's worst flooding in recent history, singer and songwriter Aizat Amdan is appealing to fans to give them a helping hand.

In a video which he posted on Instagram yesterday, Aizat, whose song Jangan Menangis is competing in the semi-finals of Muzik Muzik 32, said he was saddened by the fact that several people lost their lives, and hundreds have had their property damaged by the massive flood which hit many parts of Georgetown since Nov 4.

Aizat said: "I was in Penang about a week ago for a show in Universiti Sains Malaysia. I also had great food and the people of Penang greeted me with warmth and love.

"Thus, when I saw images of Penangites who lost their homes and belongings, and were cold, wet and starving, I was deeply saddened. What if it was my neighbourhood?

"Fortunately, there are many kind-hearted people who spend their time and energy helping the flood victims. I’ve decided to join them – I know this isn't much – but I couldn't help doing nothing since Penangites are my fellow Malaysians, too.

"Let's all pray for Penang, and do the best we can to alleviate their suffering and hardship, God willing.

“They need donations in the form of household goods and food, as well as monetary contributions from fellow Malaysians, and we must do all we can for them.

“Prayers and thoughts from my family and I go to the people of Georgetown and Penang. Be strong, We are here for you!"
