Nestle launches world's first solar-powered ice cream kiosk

SUBANG JAYA: Nestle has unveiled the world's first solar-powered ice cream kiosk here.

The unveiling of the kiosk was done by Head of Nestle Ice Cream Strategic Business Unit, Nestle S.A, Hans-Ulrich Mayer, in Sunway Lagoon today.

The solar-powered ice cream kiosk draws its solar energy from the photovoltaic (PV) panels located on its roof to keep the ice cream freezing at -25 degree Celcius.

“It has been a journey of innovation to develop the technology behind this solar powered kiosks. The effort is in line with Nestle’s sustainability goals of achieving 100 per cent electricity generation from renewable resources,” says Mayer.

Each Nestle solar-powered ice cream kiosk works 100 per cent independent from electricity power, resulting in up to 263kg of carbon dioxide emission reduction a year. The power harvested from a day’s worth of charging can run the kiosk up to three days.

Totally off-grid, this newly introduced solar-powered ice cream kiosk can easily be set-up at any remote area or at high traffic places with limited or no electricity source, such as beaches and parks.
