Great experience with Huawei Watch GT 2

KUALA LUMPUR: THE Huawei Watch GT 2 is officially available today, but we've managed to test the watch with two users prior to the launch.

About the watch

The Huawei Watch GT 2 is also Huawei’s first smartwatch with an all-in-one 3D glass screen, creating a wider, boundless display. Moreover, the new smartwatch is also designed to deliver more sports modes with richer programs.

With the added Bluetooth calling and music playback functionalities, it is able to give users comprehensive health and fitness monitoring and management capabilities, with meticulous detail.

User experience

For the user experience test, two Huawei phone users - Niclolas King and Najmuddin Najib were selected to try out the phone.

They wore the watch and played with the features in it for 4 days without taking it off or charging it to see how it performs.

Here are their feedback:

Nicholas King:

The Huawei Watch GT 2 is a fantastic bargain for a classy looking smartwatch. It is packed with all the necessary features of the usual smartwatch, and these are already extremely worthy.

After using it for 4 days, I feel the watch is extremely durable and has a good battery life that can last days after it is fully charged. This really makes the watch a deal too good to be true.

Besides that, the changeable straps that comes packed with it is an added bonus for choice of style.

During the four-day trial, I used the general fitness (steps walked, hours slept, calculating breathing and heart rate) and theme changing features the most.

These features are not limited to the GT2 of course, but the watch's incredible battery life and durability makes the experience and usability of these features much more consistent thus reliable and functional.

As the sleeping and breathing apps are a nice touch, but the battery longevity per-charge and water resistant build is the highlight for me.

Not worrying about battery running out is always great and having to last for days without charge is amazing and extremely convinient. I don't have to worry of it suddenly failing for me.

By the end of the four-day trail, the Huawei GT Watch still has 62 percent battery life, and I think this is something revolutionary.

Najmuddin Najib:

Appearance-wise, the Huawei GT 2 watch gets top marks. A no-nonsense build, with chrome edges and large face, which would probably suit men more than women.

The straps are sturdy and interchangeable, which enables it to be used in whatever social setting.

I find the screen resolution is second to none, and is stunning in its clarity, as is the audio playback, which is also commendable.

Besides that, Huawei also constantly updates the watch face offerings so you have a virtual rotating gallery of faces you can choose every day.

The face, although appearing fragile, can apparently take a bit of a knock. I had more than once accidentally bumped it into a corner or doorknob and there were no noticeable effects on the surface.

Features wise, it links seamlessly with the Huawei Health app for my Huawei Mate 10 Pro. There is no noticeable lag in accessing the information, and the layout is crisp, clean and very intuitive.

The most useful features for me would be the Stress Test and Sleep Tracker. On top of measuring your stress level, it also helps guide the wearer through a series of breathing exercises. The sleep tracker data, meanwhile, is thorough and comparable to the Fitbit. It breaks down sleep patterns according to Deep Sleep, REM sleep, Light Sleep and even makes recommendations for the user on how best to achieve optimum rest.

While it promises two weeks battery life, it fell a bit short for this user test. From a full charge, it took a week for the battery to whittle down to 2 per cent. It should be noted that I did not set any notifications (WhatsApp, emails, calls) for the watch, hence it was a bit puzzling as to how the battery only managed to accomplish only half the promised duration. Nevertheless, given its wealth of features, it's still a commendable effort.

By the end of the fourth day, the battery life indicator on the watch stood at 31 percent.
