Rural sellers get tech upgrade with e-commerce store on Shopee

“Around 24 per cent of Malaysian population lives in rural areas and it is our focus at the Ministry of Rural Developments (KPLB) to help improve the economic standing and income of the rural folks,” says Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun, minister at Ministry of Rural Developments.

The launch is a second initiative by the ministry following the success of its first collaboration with Shopee with Desamall@KPLB through its e-commerce enabler, Elokal. The Desamall@KPLB is an online store parked on Shopee platform featuring locally made products including sambal, dodol, baju kurung and many others for not only locally but international market too.

The collaboration is expected to benefit more than 200 rural auto related sellers.

“Desamall@KPLB and Desaauto@KPLB are two KPLB’s initiatives which will allow rural entrepreneurs to get on the e-commerce bandwagon in tandem with the fourth industrial revolution.

Also at the same event, Zed Li, Head of seller management at Shopee Malaysia officially launched Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale which runs from today (Nov 28) to Dec 12, 2019.

As part of the celebration, Shopee has lined up promotions to appreciate the never-ending support its customers has shown with daily RM12 deals, free shipping for RM12 minimum spend and 12 million Shopee coins up for grab during the promotion period.

Introducing new functions, Shopee users can now reload mobile and pay water, electricity and cable bills on the platform too via Reloads, Vouchers and Bills feature on the app. In line with Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale, users can earn 10 per cent coins cashback with bill payment until Dec 12.
