#TECH: Tips on overcoming boredom during MCO

WITH the recent Movement Control Order (MCO) extension announced by the Prime Minister, we might face a little problem--getting bored at home.

However, thanks to the advancement in technology, this can be minimised. Here are some tips.

BRIDGING THE SOCIAL DISTANCE

This is something we’ve never taught of - social distancing. With the “yumcha” and “mamak” sessions we normally have every day, we must be missing them now.

But who says you cannot take the session online?

Emulate what you’ve been doing with your colleagues for offices meetings and set a video conference session.

Among the free apps you can easily use for this are Skype and Zoom. Both apps are mobile and desktop-friendly. Skype’s group video chat now allows up to 50 users in one call and Zoom allows you to host up to 100 participants on a single call.

FOOD OF THE DAY

Some say working from is more tiring as now they have to cook a complete six meals for the household. If you’re tired, take a break from cooking and order food online.

In this case, Food Panda and Grab Food are the top choices. During the MCO period, they are giving customers free delivery service. For GrabFood, apply code FREEDEL to enjoy a free delivery with a minimum expenditure of RM28. For Food Panda, its delivery is free and you can apply the code PANDAPAL to enjoy a 30 per cent savings from your order.

SAFE SHOPPING

If you’re used to buy things online, you should know how to get the best deal for your money. Lounging around while browsing sites like Shopee can help cure your boredom. Shopee includes some interesting in-app games and vouchers. Until April 4, 2020, the platform is organising a surprise sale with prices as low as RM0.44.

GET POP-CULTURED

Why not take this opportunity to spend some quality time with your family or find out who are among the up-and-coming actors and actresses? Catch up on movies or series your friends have been raving on about, such as, Crash Landing on You, on Netflix. Stream Netflix for unlimited movies and TV shows on your phone, tablet, laptop and TV with packages starting from RM17 a month.

KEEP FIT

What happen to that year-end resolution to start exercising and lose weight? It’s time to dust off that yoga mat and start off with some simple stretching workouts. There are many free tutorials available on YouTube.

Alternatively, if you already have or are plan to get a Nintendo Switch, enjoy fitness games on the Switch such as Just Dance 2020, Zumba Burn It Up! or Fitness Boxing.

Aren’t we lucky that we have wonderful technologies today?
