#TECH: Xiaomi launches three new smartphones

KUALA LUMPUR: Xiaomi is back with the announcement of three new smartphones - the Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 9 and Mi Note 10 Lite.

Both the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 feature a centralised quad-camera setup at the back. The difference between the two phones lies in the camera settings.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro features a 64MP main lens which is designed to capture crisp, ultra-high resolution images in all lighting conditions while its 8MP ultra wide angle lens is made for taking large group images easily. A 5MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor round out the rear camera, which let users take better close-up shots with a nice bokeh.

On the front, the phone sports a 16MP in-display camera for high-quality selfies. Beside that, it also sports a new slow motion selfie mode that captures slow-motion videos for that unique social media shots.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 9 also brings photography to the forefront with a 48MP main camera and 8MP ultra wide-angle lens. Its 2MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor complete the quad-camera setup.

Its 13MP front camera is positioned in-display to allow for maximum front screen display size.

In the video department, the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 's cinematic portraits and video mode captures content with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio – the same format commonly used in films. Meanwhile, its six different kaleidoscope options allow users to shoot quirky, eye-catching videos in an instant, while the all new document mode transforms the smartphone into a pocket-sized scanner.

"The Redmi Note series has a long-standing reputation of being one of the most incredible mid-range smartphone series globally. As a testament to that, over 110 million units have been sold globally according to Canalys, making it one of Xiaomi's best-selling smartphone series. Most recently, we saw great success with the total global sales of Redmi Note 8 series exceeding 30 million units, according to the data obtained from Xiaomi Data Platform in April. The Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro were also listed on the Global Top Smartphones list in Q4, 2019," said Xiaomi's country manager of Malaysia and Singapore, Nicolas Shi.

Better battery

Packing a large 5020mAh (typ) battery, Redmi Note 9 Pro holds enough power to last until the next day without compromising on its slim design. The phone also offers 30W fast charging, which is Redmi

Note Series' fastest-ever charging speed, with an in-box 33W fast charger that can charge up to 57 percent in just 30 minutes .

The Redmi Note 9, meanwhile, sports a 5020mAh (typ) battery with 18W fast charging support, making it an ideal companion for on-the-go users.

Performance

Under the hood of the Redmi Note 9 Pro is Qualcomm's latest SnapdragonTM 720G processor with up to 2.3GHz speed for a fast, flagship-level experience.

Built with 8nm process technology, the device is capable of delivering powerful performance while maintaining power efficiency.

The pro model also sports a z-axis linear vibration motor for a more balanced user experience. The z-axis linear vibration creates 120 vibration effects depending on the user's action, including different vibrations for photos, screenshots, notifications, clock settings and more.

For Redmi Note 9, Xiaomi has decided to use the MediaTek Helio G85 processor, making it the world's first smartphone to feature the new chipset.

It also consists of a 2x A75 2.0GHz, 6x A55 1.8GHz CPU and an ARM G52 MC2 with roughly 1000MHz and a Manhattan 3.0 GPU at around 25 fps, offering ultra-smooth day-to-day performance.

DotDisplay

Both the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 sport a beautiful design with a notch-free display.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro features a stylish, notch-free 6.67-inch DotDisplay. A side-mounted fingerprint sensor makes the device more conveniently accessible, while an all-new front camera module design ensures a premium and immersive user experience.

Redmi Note 9 , on the other hand, flaunts an all-new look with the immersive 6.53-inch DotDisplay protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front.

Both phones feature an array of other fan-favourite features, including two multi-functional NFC , a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an IR blaster.

These devices also come with the TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification for long-lasting eye comfort, and splash-proof nano coating for accidental spills.

Mi Note 10 Lite

Besides the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9, Xiaomi also offers the Mi Note 10 Lite. It sports a 6.47-inch 3D curved AMOLED display and a 3D curved glass back that gives a premium in-hand feel, while using a thinner, yet highly-responsive in-screen fingerprint sensor for an instant unlocking of the phone.

Being part of the Mi Note 10 family, the Mi Note 10 Lite also offers a versatile 64MP quad camera setting which packs Sony's IMX686 sensor for quick snaps, and dedicated sensors for ultra wide-angle photos, up-close macro shots, and gorgeous portraits.

On the performance front, Mi Note 10 Lite leverages the Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 730G Mobile Platform to provide ultra-smooth mobile experience, and a massive 5,260mAh battery for two-days' usage in one single charge.

It also comes with an in-box 30W fast charger to enable non-stop work and play.

Price and availability

The Redmi Note 9 Pro will retail for RM1,099, while the Redmi Note 9 will retail starting from RM649. The Mi Note 10 Lite will retail from RM 1,599 from May 12.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro will be available in 6GB+128GB version and come in three colours - Interstellar Grey, Tropical Green and Glacier White.

It will be available on Xiaomi LazMall Flagship Store and authorised Mi Stores in Malaysia.

From now till May 17, every pre-order of the Redmi Note 9 Pro (6GB+128GB) version, on Xiaomi LazMall Flagship Store and authorised Mi Stores, comes with a complimentary Redmi Power Bank 10,000mAh (RM59).
