Selangor moves forward with modest fashion

Selangor is set to take on this segment of the fashion industry, writes Meera Murugesan.

SELANGOR Modest Fashion made a splashing debut this year.

An initiative by the Selangor State Government under Invest Selangor, the event was a realisation of the vision to empower and create global champions while positioning Selangor as a fashion hub for modest fashion in the next five years.

The highly anticipated event with the tagline Redefining Modesty opened with a fashion gala at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur on Dec 3 and saw both aspiring and established designers showcasing their ensembles.

Nine aspiring designers each showcased three ready-to-wear looks and also one design each for the Royal Collection while the established designers each produced one look for the Royal Collection.

The Royal Collection, with designs for both men and women, drew inspiration from traditional Selangor attire and the nine-petal Bunga Tanjung, the official flower of Selangor and one of the key elements in the architectural design of the Selangor royal palace.

Among the established industry players at the event were Melinda Looi, Datuk Tom Abang Saufi, Datuk Radzuan Radziwill, Fiziwoo and Rizman Ruzaini.

Modest Fashion Hub Selangor (notably Bangi and Shah Alam) has always been associated with modest fashion.

Selangor Modest Fashion witnessed the presence of Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Invest Selangor CEO Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris.

Selangor Modest Fashion also supports the development of fresh talents and has an incubator programme for apprentice designers coming from a technical and vocational background related to fashion design.
