A local brand’s demi-fine jewellery is the perfect fit for multi-tasking active women, writes Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan.
IT’S only fitting that local jewellery brand Wanderlust + Co has come up with a demi-fine line, pieces that are so comfortable you forget that you are wearing them.
Founder and mum-of-two Jenn Low is big on function and practicality. She’s also big on listening to customers and they are women who spend their days doing many things from working to caring for children and going for yoga or Pilates.
Reinterpreting shapes and silhouettes from the brand’s all-time bestsellers into vermeil classics that can be worn daily, the pieces are crafted from a 925 sterling silver base, 2.5 microns thickness of 14k gold plating, studded with semi-precious stones and e-coated for extra lustre and shine.
Each piece is made by five experienced artisans and each semi-precious stone used in this collection is ethically sourced.
“Women are seeking lasting vermeil jewellery pieces that will see them through their day — from work to yoga and swimming or even to the gym. Basically, jewellery you never need to take off,” says a statement from Wanderlust + Co.
FINE FIND
I tried the Topaz Baguette sterling silver necklace (RM407) despite my initial reservations about its thin and fragile chain.
I wasn’t sure if it would take me through my day from my desk to the kitchen.
The first thing that strikes me is that it falls so comfortably on my skin that I forget it’s there.
I only wear gold necklaces because other metals make my skin itch but this one doesn’t and I am most pleasantly surprised.
The stone gives it weight so it doesn’t move around and the rectangle shape is classic (and that’s so me!).
I wear it to work, to my son’s football class, while cooking and in the shower. It’s just perfect.
For someone who doesn’t fancy jewellery because it can be tedious to wear and take off constantly, I am very impressed with this line. For the first time, I have found something that fits me as a person and is not just another beautiful necklace.
I like that the loop for the hook of the clasp is in the shape of a diamond — a thoughtful design — and that you can wear it in three lengths. The gold plating gives it a subtle shine that makes the jewellery stand out on the skin.
Best of all, I love it that my first perception of the piece was wrong. It may look flimsy and fragile but after wearing it for a few weeks, I realise that it’s anything but. The same can be said about women.
