Rosyam Nor to open wet market for urbanites

DATUK Rosyam Nor loves green-fingered ventures as much as silver-screened ones these days.

As an actor-producer and recently an agriculture enthusiast, the 50-year-old will soon open a wet market to cater to city dwellers.

Located in Taman Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur, the wet market, named Sri Ternak Rosyam Mart, will begin operations early next month.

This project is a joint venture between him and wholesale market operator Sri Ternak.

“While acting and filmmaking are my first loves, I’ve always been interested in agriculture. My parents planted fruit trees and raised chickens for eggs and meat when I was growing up in Kampung Kerinchi,” said Rosyam at the SME Corporation Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in KL Sentral recently.

Rosyam, who has known Sri Ternak executive director Raymond Ho for two years, plans to open two more wet markets with him by the end of next year.

“Fresh produce like fish, meat and greens sold at Sri Ternak Rosyam Mart will have wholesale market prices,” he said, adding that it would also supply fresh produce to several Klang Valley eateries.

Rosyam hoped his journey from actor to entrepreneur would inspire others.
