Fans tell Roslan and Kayda to avoid airing differences on social media

KUALA LUMPUR: Disagreements between family members occur from time to time, but when they find their way onto social media, the rumour mill may start working overtime and spin a mere difference of opinion into a major feud.

Such advice from fans seems appropriate for father and daughter, music producer Roslan Aziz and singer-songwriter Kayda, who aired their differences publicly, over Datuk Sheila Majid’s rendition of Lagenda at the Sea Games 2017 closing ceremony in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

While many fans applauded Sheila, her ex-husband Roslan remarked in a Facebook post that she had sung it out of tune.

Despite qualifying his comment as a "professional opinion" and admitting that she remains one of his favourite singers, Roslan promptly received a rebuke from Kayda, who also sang with her mother at the ceremony.

"Memang lah! You kan tahap Celine Dion (Of course! Aren't you the same level as Celine Dion?)?" said Kayda in her reply to Roslan.

A fan of Roslan identified as Rina Rish, however, agreed with him and said that Sheila was really out of tune. She told Kayda: "I am nobody to you but as a person who also has a father, don't air your grievances with family members in public. It never gets anywhere especially if your family is always in the limelight."

Kayda appreciated Rina's advice, but soon gave an earful to another fan identified as Fauziah Harun who remarked that her mother "should retire for good when people still remember her glorious years".

"I think all of you should go get a life! Keyboard warriors who don't have a life and have achieved nothing! Get over it!" said Kayda, after which Fauziah duly apologised.

Fortunately, many commentators were supportive of Sheila and Kayda, too. One of them identified as Pada CintaNya said: "I believe your mum gave it her very best and after all, it was still a spectacular show! Congratulations to both of you!"

Lagenda, Sheila’s 1990 hit song is dedicated to the late Tan Sri P Ramlee, and is one of the songstress’ most popular songs.
