Icing on Irwansyah's cake

HE recently spent close to three months in Kuala Lumpur to star in a Malaysia-produced TV drama series.

Spending this long in the city must have given him the idea of bringing his cake business over to our shores.

The 32-year-old Indonesian artiste Irwansyah and his wife, singer-actress Zaskia Sungkar, co-own two cake businesses — Bandung Makuta and Bebelly Bakery — with fellow actress and close friend, Laudya Cynthia Bella, which they started together in less than a year. They hope to see Bebelly Bakery opening its branch in Kuala Lumpur soon.

Irwansyah said they had discussed with Bella on the possible expansion of the business and she had agreed to it, especially since she is married to Malaysian businessman Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin and is based in Malaysia.

“We hope this plan will materialise. With Bella in Kuala Lumpur, she will be able to manage the business more easily,” said Irwansyah at the launch of TV3’s latest drama, Dia, at One Utama, Petaling Jaya, recently.

The popular singer and actor has no qualms about flying back and forth between Malaysia and Indonesia for this.

“Perhaps I’ll buy a house here, who knows. My wife loves it here too. She thinks Malaysia is a beautiful country and often asks when we would come here for a holiday instead of for work.

“I consider Malaysia my second home, as I always feel welcome here,” he said.

Irwansyah stars as Adit in Dia, alongside Janna Nick, who plays Aira, and Izara Aishah as Emelda. The story centres on a love triangle between the trio.

The drama series airs Fridays to Sundays at 9pm beginning Saturday on TV3.
