KUALA LUMPUR: Akademi Fantasia 3 (AF3) winner Asmawi "Mawi" Ani realised another dream of his by becoming an announcer with Astro's new radio station, Zayan.fm.
"I've always dreamed of becoming a radio announcer, besides singing and acting, and joining Zayan is a fulfilment of my third wish, now that I'm already a singer and actor," he said when interviewed yesterday.
Mawi, 36, is still passionate about singing, and his duet with actor and director Syamsul Yusof, Bukan Propaganda, from the film Desolasi, has just entered the semi-finals of Muzik Muzik 32.
Next year, he will be starring in Syamsul's new thriller Munafik 2, as a friend of the spiritual healer Adam, played by Syamsul.
"Singing will always be my first love, followed by acting, and radio announcing is cool for me because I get to chat with fans and perhaps, reconnect with old friends," said Mawi who is handling the Salam Bros slot from 6am to 10am, Mondays to Fridays, with Anas.
"I admit I was a little clumsy when I began duties in October, but I soon got the hang of it. What I like about my new job is that it brings out my sociable and funny self and furthermore, the segments I have are interesting."
Mawi's four-hour slot sees him promote Jawi in Mawi Jawi and new musicians in Bro Buskers, among others.
Besides Mawi and Anas, Zayan.fm's other announcers include former newscaster Lin Ariffin, television host Raqib and master of ceremonies Faliq.
