Singer-songwriter Aizat's trophy-chasing days behind him

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan confessed that there was a point in his life when he had only wanted to create works that would win in competitions.

But he said that the urge had since passed on now that he was comfortable creating songs that satisfy himself first, like those that were released during his initial foray into the world of entertainment.

“When I first started writing songs, I was aiming for works that I would really enjoy myself. And it’s hard to describe the feeling when listeners also felt the same love for the tunes.”

“Then I went through a phase where I was compelled to only write songs that I thought could win me trophies in competitions.”

“But I now feel that I have returned to my old self in creating tracks that I truly love,” said the 28-year-old artiste in a recent news report.

Aizat, who is currently in the process of producing a new album, is also in the running for the Muzik-Muzik 32 semi-finals, competing against 29 other songs to head on to the Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) in February.

Although he was not placing much hope in winning, Aizat said that his single, Jangan Menangis, which he co-wrote with Faizal Tahir and Mike Chan, was already special enough for him as it was inspired by the 1Moment4them expedition to provide aid to the people of Syria in 2013.

Viewing the other contending songs as great works, Aizat, who had won the Best Song (for Pergi) and Best Performance (Kau Aku) awards at AJL 2009, added that all the competing singers had extraordinary talent as well.

Tomorrow 10 songs will be presented and judged by a professional jury panel, who will then select the final dozen deserving tunes to compete at AJL 32. The semi-finals show will air live on TV3 at 10pm.
