(Showbiz) Fara Fauzana helps refugees from Syria in Turkey

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular TV host Fara Fauzana Mohd Fadzil is spending 10 days in Turkey, aiding refugees from war-torn Syria on a humanitarian mission.

Currently in the Turkish province of Gaziantep, close to the border with Syria, Fara is part of the Malaysian Life Line For Syria Humanitarian Relief Mission. The former HotFM radio announcer and TV3 talk show Melodi host is the non-governmental organisation's celebrity ambassador.

"I'll be back home next Tuesday. It's very chilly here in Turkey, despite having thick winter clothing," said Fara in an Instagram post yesterday.

"We're visiting two refugee camps in Gaziantep, distributing daily necessities such as foodstuffs, clothing, toilettries, blankets and mattresses to the Syrian families who are pouring into Turkey."

Fara also told Berita Harian Online that her 20-member team visited the Al-Ansar Orphanage where the war victims were temporarily housed.

"We met more than 200 families from the Salli Urfa camp at the Syria-Turkey border, to present donations in kind from Malaysians. I feel proud and honoured to be part of this good cause, it shows we Malaysians reach out to help the needy internationally!"

Fara's team collected RM300,000 from Malaysians over the last two months courtesy of her own campaign #FaFau4Syria. This was supported by the Penang Zakat Centre, and it also benefited Syrians in Aleppo and Idlib.
