Bront: I enjoy working abroad

DESPITE having gained prominence in the Indonesian film industry, bidding adieu to Malaysia has never crossed his mind.

In fact, actor Bront Palarae is busy working on a few local productions.

“It’s important to continue to stay relevant in Malaysia since this is where I started my career,” said the 39-year-old artiste, whose real name is Nasrul Suhaimin Saifuddin.

“At the same time, I don’t want people to perceive me as someone who thinks he’s ‘too good’ for the local film industry,” said the 39-year-old, who is happy to hone his craft anywhere.

In an interview in Kuala Lumpur yesterday Bront said he enjoyed working abroad.

His acting stint in Indonesia has opened his eyes on how different things are done over there.

“Whenever we go abroad, there’s always something new to be learned and applied back in Malaysia. So, if I were to cut ties with my home country, then whatever I learnt is pretty much pointless,” he said.

Bront has starred in Indonesian movies such as Headshot, My Stupid Boss, Pengabdi Setan and Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2.

With the success of Pengabdi Setan and Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 in Indonesia, Bront is honoured to have gained recognition in the republic.

“To have another country welcoming me to be a part of its film industry is beyond amazing.

“This gives me the realisation that opportunities for an actor like me is abundant outside Malaysia,” said Bront.

Last November, Bront was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Bapak in Pengabdi Setan, at the republic’s Film Festival Tempo.

Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2, which opens in local cinemas tomorrow, has Bront playing Barruch, a hot-tempered Jewish ex-army officer who ill-treats his stepmother. Fellow Malaysian star Nur Fazura is also part of the cast, as she makes her appearance as a supporting character named Brenda.
