Girl's Day's Hyeri turns down Winter Olympics offer

Life sometimes imitates art, for better or for worse, and South Korean singer Hyeri of Girl’s Day cannot agree more.

According to a news report by Soompi, a representative from South Korea’s embassy said the singer was offered to become the official picket girl for Madagascar at the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony tomorrow.

“Hyeri has been chosen to be the picket girl for the Madagascar team in the Pyeongchang Olympics,” the representative said.

Although it might seemed random to choose Hyeri, fans of the South Korean film, Reply 1988, knew exactly why she was a pick.

Hyeri’s character in Reply 1988 was also chosen to be the picket girl for Madagascar in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, thus, the comedy seems to have been brought to life.

Strangely enough, life imitated art twice.

In the drama, Hyeri’s character was not able to become the picket girl, and she will not be able to be one in real life too.

Her agency, Dream T Entertainment, said it received the offer from the Games’ organisers but would not be able to fulfil it.

“While Hyeri received an offer to become the picket girl, she will not be able to participate due to her busy schedule,” said her agency.
