KUALA LUMPUR: The 31st Hanteo Music Awards which took place in Seoul over the weekend ended up being a smelly affair due to a strong stench of faeces during the event.
Koreaboo reported yesterday that a fan had apparently defecated in the crowded standing section partway through the show.
The incident went viral on X with many users sharing their experience of getting an uninviting whiff of the repulsive smell when they attended the event.
This included numerous pictures of idols covering their mouths being shared on social media in relation to the event.
It was also mentioned that there was faecal matter scattered around the area on the clothes, shoes and belongings of fans there.
After the event, the fan who defecated had allegedly released an apology on X, which read: "Hello, I'm the person who pooped at the Hanteo Music Awards. After reading posts on Twitter, I realised that many people felt uncomfortable because of me.
"I'm so sorry for causing inconvenience and I will reflect on my mistake and the issue that happened earlier today. Once again, I'm sorry, and have a good day."
Further reports allude to the person backtracking and alleging that the confession was a hoax.
So far, no official statement has been made by the organisers of the awards event that recognises the best artistes and recordings, primarily based on Korea's popular Hanteo Chart of the Year from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2023.
Some Netizens had also speculated that the whole affair might have just been a dirty joke.
