#Showbiz: 'I'm strong... I must move on' - singer Ziana Zain

KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning singer Ziana Zain shed tears in the midst of a performance, but "sing-along" fans strengthened her resolve to complete a popular tune.

The 50-year-old singer, whose husband Armin Zaharin Ahmad Zambri has been charged with injuring their son, broke down while singing Puncak Kasih at a corporate event in JW Marriott Hotel, here yesterday.

Harian Metro reported that in the midst of the song which won Best Ballad at the Anugerah Juara Lagu 1998, Ziana was overcome with emotion and stopped singing for a while to wipe her tears.

Fortunately, the audiences understood what she was going through and promptly helped her finish the romantic number, accompanied by her musicians.

Thanking audiences for their support, Ziana said: "I'm strong. As a celebrity, things can happen to me, it's not easy, but I must move on with my work. Thank you to all my fans."

Ziana, whose career has spanned almost three decades, recently asked for "space" following former air steward Armin's arrest for allegedly injuring their 9-year-old son with a cane at 4am on Feb 25.

Armin, 53, has been charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury. The offence carries a jail term of not more than 10 years or a fine, whipping or both.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and claimed that he was merely teaching his son how to recite religious scripture and perform prayer.

Armin's case will be mentioned again on April 4.

According to the charge sheet, a police report was made by Ziana on Feb 27 before Armin's arrest on March 2.

Ziana and Armin were married in May 1998 and have four children, Muhammad Aiman, 19, Muhammad Ammar, 14, and 9-year-old twins Muhammad Ariel and Siti Nur Kaseh.
