Kilafairy goes the extra mile in 'Nafas'

SHE may be known as the first Malaysian to duet with Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston, but Kilafairy is also an actress who prepares for her roles meticulously.

The 25-year-old daughter of 1980s singer Rohana Jalil hates smoking, yet took puffs for her character in the drama, Nafas, on ntv7.

“I play a young woman who suffers from lung cancer as a result of her heavy smoking. So, to make her bad habit look real, I took the challenge of doing something I hate a lot — puffing on a cigarette.”

Director Bahri Umar did not force her to smoke. He had initially suggested for her to put a cigarette in her mouth and allow the production crew to create fake smoke with dry ice.

“I wanted to give a solid portrayal,” said Kilafairy.

Although Kilafairy, whose real name is Syakila Nisa Jangir, pretended to enjoy smoking, she admitted that she felt terrible while inhaling and exhaling the cigarette for a few minutes.

When asked how her mother reacted to her stunt, Kilafairy said Rohana had no problem with it.

Filming for Nafas began last month and is expected to wrap up by early next month.

The 24-episode drama, which stars Erwin Dawson, Thanuja Ananthan, Cristina Suzanne Stockstill and Gambit Saifullah, tells the story of Khadijah, played by Kilafairy, who is a third-stage terminal cancer patient.
